• K User | 9 Sep 2011, 13:36 Thermae Treat Decided to visit Bath spa as a treat for my Birthday, with my best friend.  We picked the Thermae treat experience.  Phoned and booked a month in advance.  We booked to have our treatments at 10.45 ( as this meant we could have the treatments at the same time), we were asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to treatment to register with reception. Unfortuantly due to traffic we arrived at 10.45. We phoned to explain and were told that we may have to forfeit our treatment,  Arrived at 10.45, the receptionist had signed us in and we were quickly taken to the massage suites.  Very understanding on us being late and we were both greeted by two girls who took us to seperate suites.  We both had a back massage and facial.  she made sure i was comfortable, asked on any major areas i wanted her to focus on.  After a lovley relaxing massage we were taken to a seatin area where my friend was waiting.  We then explored the rooftop, steam rooms and minerva bath.  We spent well over an hour and a half looking at the lovley views of Bath. With the cold air heating your cheeks and ears and having heated water over you just very relaxing.      Only tiny issues:  Robes get very wet.  Foot pools in steam rooms had no plugs. Rooftop got very busy. The wrist bands were very lose whihc i had to tie onto my bikini.    If your going to come to the spa i would highly recommend paying for this spa package.  Make sure you book a treatment before your spa experience starts as you can have 3 hours of total relaxation and the treatments are very relaxing.  This includes bath and towels. And also means you dont have to rush around and keep looking at the clock.  I would also make sure you book on a weekday.    Highly recommend!

  • Melanie H | 9 Sep 2011, 13:25 Some highlights but fails to live up to its potential This was my second visit to Thermae Bath Spa. This really confirmed my first experience, which is that I although I really wanted to love it and there are lots of positives about the spa, unfortunately overall it doesn't really live up to expectations. To get the negatives out of the way first, the layout is confusing and the ambient temperature is cold. These factors combine to make a generally unpleasant experience as you shiver around the spa, up and down the stairs or the lift. I hired the robe and slippers at reception, but these didn't really help. My friend and I braved the elements from the lift to the rooftop pool, only to find the water disappointingly... well ... cold. We swam around for a while trying to find a warm spot to enjoy the views across Bath. After giving it a fair chance, we were both just too uncomfortable went in search of the steam rooms to warm up. At my previous visit one of the steam rooms was out of order, however this time all were functioning. It was difficult to find a working foot spa though, my friend and I tried about four between us. In the end I was lucky enough to find one working, however my friend's one still only partially worked - she could fill it with warm water, but no bubbles. The rain shower in the centre feels good, however it works on a timer and there is no clear indication of when it is going to come on - in between the water just dribbles rather pathetically. The choice and quality of the restaurant food is good, however the portions are really small for the cost. For example, I ordered a main salad for approximately £10 and it was like a side salad and the juice of the day came in a child size glass. The main fish dish for £13 was also tiny. Throughout the Spa there are just metal chairs and nowhere to sit that is particularly inviting or comfortable. As for the good - the reception area is welcoming and the team are very helpful and friendly. The indoor Minerva bath feels very warm and relaxing, and you can while the time away floating in the gentle current, sitting in the soft bubbles of the whirlpool or being pummelled by the water jet. It is good to be able to enjoy bobbing around in the therapeutic mineral rich waters and to clear your mind of stress. The steam rooms are of a good temperature, the lavender scented one was especially relaxing and the mint was refreshing. This visit my friend and I also went for a treatment. This was another highlight. I had a massage which the therapist adapted to my needs. She totally put me at ease and the treatment felt very individualised and of an exceptionally high standard. My friend had a facial with another therapist and was equally impressed with the high quality of the treatment, level of relaxation achieved and the time taken both before and afterwards to discuss her specific skin concerns. Overall the Spa itself is disappointing and overpriced. The main attraction remains the historic significance of the site and the natural spring, however it is disappointing after so much investment of public money, delay and hype that this was the best that could be achieved. The impression of scrimping and trying to claw back every penny spent (or wasted) is palpable. The therapists and treatments however are exceptional.

  • Marian User | 9 Sep 2011, 13:13 booking a treatment My husband and I have a Twilight Package voucher which we received as a gift and I just tried to book some treatments prior to the start of our Twilight event - only to be informed that it was not possible and that treatments can only be booked with the purchase of a 2 or 4 hour spa session. Seems a bit silly to me and I'm amazed that any business can refuse an additional £100 or so in this economy!

  • Zena Woodley | 9 Sep 2011, 12:59 My first visit A girl friend & I went together on a Monday recently. She'd booked a 'Classic Thermae' day as birthday treats for both of us. This was the first time I'd ever been to a spa; luckily she'd visited before, and was able to give me a running guide. I think several others would have welcomed this! The receptionist was interested only in 'processing' us as quickly as possible: information given was basic, hurried, and curt. Her haste resulted in confusion with another booking (with a similar name) - but was for a Mr & Mrs, which we definitely weren't! Thanks to this, there was confusion when we went for our Kraxen Stove, & time rearrangement was needed for the massage - but the delightful Barbara sorted it out correctly. Lunch was delightful, and the staff suggested returning later for our main course - or we would have been late for our main treatment. Lauren is wonderful (when I return, she'd be my therapist of choice!); I was just sooo relaxed when she'd done. The rooftop pool is great fun; and the Minerva pool saw me moving through the water with increasing confidence (I don't swim). Downsides: those wretched 'bangles', which might have fastened snugly once upon a time - not now. I would have welcomed someone to tell me I could use steam rooms..also being shown the procedure for the changing area. And that receptionist!    But I would definitely visit again - I've an eye on more of the treaatments...!

  • Melissa Roberts | 9 Sep 2011, 11:25 Birthday weekend at the spa My girlfriends and I came down to the spa for my 21st birthday and gosh was it a treat...beautiful location in the heart of Bath, what a picturesque town, helpful and friendly staff and oh my the pools...especially the rooftop pool! My treatments with Lindsey and Shay were sublime: Lindsey was possibly the nicest therapist I have ever met (and the softest hands!) and Shay was full of amazing advice, and her full body massage was heaven...I didn't want to get off the bed at the end! Relaxation rooms are also a lovely treat - perfect trip in every way! Will definately come again....for a whole day of treatments. The staff are a great asset to this wonderful venue. Thanks!!!

  • Emma Lambert | 9 Sep 2011, 11:19 Time for Two Package Booked the Time for Two package for an anniversary surprise - totally relaxing (no kids allowed).  We both had a thermae facial which was excellent, kraxen stove - worthwhile but very hot.  Included was a 2 course meal with the package - food was excellent and so was the service.  Slippers, robe and towel also included - better to take your own spare towel as somebody used mine while I was in the pool.  Really enjoyed the rooftop pool as it was an excellent sunny day and the Minerva Bath - both so warm and inviting.  Would definitely go again and would like to try the Watsu.  Thoroughly recommended!
